Christmas is a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus.
Christmas (“mass on Christ’s day”) derives its name from the words “Christ”(means Messiah) and “mass” (means holy rituals).
Exact birth date of Jesus is not certain ,whereas Celebrating Christmas on 25 December as the date of birth of Jesus started in Rome, Italy in early 3rd century.
Christmas is a cultural fusion of the customs from ancient pagan winter celebrations with Christian rituals.
Highlights of Christmas Celebrations are :
Nativity play recounts the story of the Nativity of Jesus, or his birth as it is described in the Biblical gospels of Luke and Matthew.
Christmas carol Christmas season hymns(carols / songs) tracing back to 4th-century Rome.
Christmas tree custom originating in Germany by Saint Boniface. Where an evergreen confiner, or an artificial tree is decorated with a wide variety of traditional and modern ornaments.An angel or star might be placed at the top of the tree to represent the Angel Gabriel or the Star of Bethlehem.
Christmas Treat : Christmas cake an English tradition, gingerbread, chocolate, sweets , meat and poultry products are consumed in christmas meal.
Santa Claus, is a legendary character based on traditions surrounding the historical turkey Saint Nicholas, the English figure of Father Christmas and the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas. He is said to bring children gifts on Christmas Eve from North Pole flying reindeer who pull his sleigh through the air.
