Legend

One of the legend behind Valentines days dates back to third century.

Roman Emperor Claudius II supposedly forbade soldiers marriage in order to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers.

Valentine performed secret Christian marriages to the soldiers.

Claudius sentenced Valentine to death 

Cultural fusion

In Ancient Rome pagan culture, Lupercalia was observed February 13–15 to welcome spring  connected to purification and health, and  fertility.

In AD 496 Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as Valentines Day in honour of Saint Valentine of Rome, who died on that date in AD 269.

With time and influence the observation of valentines day became day of love and spread across world.

Celebration and Restrictions

Valentines day is of most commercialized observation benefitting tourism , gifts, event organization sectors.

On this day lovers share flowers ,Heart symbols , greeting cards , chocolates , rings , dinner dates , gifts to their dear ones.

In India with social media trend Valentines week was created from February 7 - 14 that is Rose Day, Propose Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day , Valentines Day respectively.

In South Korea From January to December every month 14 : Candle Day, Valentine's Day, White Day, Black Day, Rose Day, Kiss Day, Silver Day, Green Day, Music Day, Wine Day, Movie Day, and Hug Day are observed respectively.

In many countries there are restrictions or ban with respective to local customs and religion.
